Aging Activisms 2015

Aging Activisms 2015 was the inaugural symposium of the Aging Activisms community. For two days in October 2015, we gathered as a group of academics, students, and activists across four generations to discuss why and how we work for social change across our lifecourses. This was an incredibly dynamic gathering, including a cabaret, a roundtable, small group discussions, and story sharing. We knew there was no going back!

Acknowledgement of the Land

We would like to recognize that this gathering took place on the traditional territory of the Mississauga Anishinaabe Peoples, which is now home to Hiawatha First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, Alderville First Nation, and the Mississaugas of Scugog First Nation. The original name for this land, in Nishnaabebowin, the language of the Michi Saagig Nishnaabeg, is Nogojiwanong, meaning “the place at the foot of the rapids.” The area was renamed Peterborough in the 19th century after being colonized by European settlers. It was not until 1923, after the colonization and theft of this land, that the Williams Treaties of this area were signed.
