World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2016: Towards an Age Friendly City

On June 9th, Montreal-based groups RECAA, Union United Church and Le Groupe Herencias/Encounters project collaborated to bring awareness to the importance of an age friendly city in preventing elder abuse.

From RECAA:

"Multiple senior’s organizations are joining forces through art to bring awareness to the seriously under-recognized issue of elder abuse and making waves toward Age Friendly Cities. RECAA along with Farah Fancy of Le Groupe Herencias/Encounters Project started an Elders Make Waves campaign towards creating an age friendly city on Senior’s Day, October, 2015. The movement lead to a directional meeting with local organizations that analyzed the United Nations Global Age Friendly Cities project. Three areas of concern were outlined for Montreal as a necessity to preventing elder abuse and contributing to an age friendly city. Themes brought to the surface are transportation, social inclusion and health and social services."
