RESEARCHERS
Velvet Lacasse
Velvet is a proud social justice elementary educator. She recently moved to Nogojiwanong/Peterborough with her partner, and is actively building new relationships with land and community. As a child who was raised in the queer community, she learned about the power of love and activism as she marched and danced in the streets in celebration and protest. Growing up in downtown Toronto with a deaf-blind father, she also learned about the importance of creating spaces and services that are inclusive and accessible for everyone. Velvet has been teaching and learning with young people and their families for 30 years. She loves to collaborate, sing, reflect and write. She is grateful to be a part of this research team!
